Free Fishing Seminar for Both Seasoned Anglers and Novices on Friday, March 5
State of Alabama
Posted: 3/1/2010 ADCNRAlabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division staff along with
local professional fishing guide Ben Gross, President of River Region
Guide Service, will present six fishing classes on Friday, March 5,
beginning at 6:00 p.m. The classes are hosted by the Prattville Leisure
Services Department at the Doster Center, 424 S. Northington Street in
downtown Prattville. Classes are free. Earlier classes will be more
relevant to novice anglers, and later classes would be of interest to
seasoned anglers.
These classes will help anglers kick off the spring fishing season. The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with classes more relevant to parents, children and novice anglers: “Fishing Gear, Knots, and Places to Go” and “Tips for Beginning Anglers.” About 7:00 p.m., “Care and Cleaning of Fish” will begin, where staff will demonstrate how to fillet fish and how to dress fish. Alabama anglers have some of the best bass, bream and catfish fishing in the country in our local ponds and smaller lakes. Some tips to fishing these smaller waters will be given during “Fishing Ponds and Small Lakes.” The final classes will consider how to catch the Alabama bass, locally known as spots: “Early Fishing for Spotted Bass” and “Spring Fishing for Spotted Bass.” Each class will last about a half hour each. Fishing is a way for families and friends to get outdoors. When together as a family, fishing promotes communication and bonding. Aquatic resources are renewable, and fishing provides a sustainable source of providing high quality protein.
